Self Assessment tax returns will not be sent to every person
who is required to complete one and it remains the individuals
responsibility to request a tax return if they fall into any
of the following categories:
- You
earned in excess of £35,115 from all sources of income
(into the 40% higher rate of tax) and some of this was
paid under deduction of tax at lower rate of tax.
- You
were a director of a limited company as at 5th April 2004
or any time during the year to 5th April 2004.
- If
you feel you had an incorrect tax code e.g. your tax code
shows benefits you no longer receive or does not show
benefits that you do receive. 461L was the basic tax code
for a single person in 2003/04.
- If
you received any Self Employed income.
- If
you received any untaxed income which is taxable e.g.
rental property income.
- If
you are entitled to any tax allowances or relief's that
you feel Inland Revenue don't know about e.g. you got
married in the tax year, claim additional persons allowance.
Many people
fall into these categories, whether they are employed or work
through their own limited company etc.
If you
fall within any of the above categories you will need to
complete a tax return. Self Assessment tax returns will
not be sent to every person who is required to complete
one and it remains the individuals responsibility to request
a tax return. If you have not received one you will need
to contact your local Inland Revenue tax office. If you
require any more information please contact K & B Accountancy
